Light
Ponytail palms prefer full bright, indirect light. However, this forgiving plant can also tolerate lower light, and will just grow more slowly.
Water
Only water when the soil has fully dried out. Use the ‘soak & dry’ method – completely soak the soil and water again only once the soil is fully dried out.
With its ability to store water in its bulbous trunk, you can usually err on the side of underwatering. But dried out, brown leaves, and/or a shriveled trunk, will let you know that you’re not giving it enough water. Yellow foliage or a mushy trunk likely means you’re overwatering.
Plant Specific Care
As desert-natives, ponytail palms don’t need much humidity but avoid placing them near a draft or vent as it may dry out the foliage.
