XL Philodendron Hope

A Philodendron Selloum, or tree philodendron, is native to South America but also grows outdoors on the East and Gulf coasts of the United States. Grown indoors, this easy-care, self-heading philodendron can spread up to 5 feet. Her shiny dark green leaves are large and deeply lobed. She does grow a trunk as she matures, but the huge drooping leaves usually hide it.

Plant Size

Extra Large: 10 inch standard nursery pot.

Light

She grows well in bright, indirect light. In lower light, the leaves turn a darker green. Too much light or direct sun burns the leaves or causes the deep green colour to fade.

Water

Unlike other philodendrons, she likes moist but not soggy soil. During the winter, water less often, keeping the soil barely moist.

Plant Specific Care

Fertilizer: Feed monthly during the spring, summer, and fall with a water-soluble balanced fertilizer diluted to ½ the recommended strength. Too much plant food causes an excess salt build-up in the soil and can cause leaf burn. Her leaves usually turn pale green when she needs more fertilizer.

Temperature: She likes warm temperatures above 55°F (12.8°C). Keep her away from drafts and open doors especially during the winter.

Humidity:  She has thinner leaves than many of her relatives and require a more humid environment to grow well. If your home or office is very dry in the winter, place your her near a humidifier or put it on a wet pebble tray.
